Amanda M...Day 321

You guys always show up exactly when I need the support! Thank you thank you!

Done with the fucking scale. It hasn't moved since Tuesday. Once a month, that's it! I always feel better when my clothes are falling off anyway (which they are) so I am going to judge it based on that for the next few weeks.

Yesterday wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The workout was okay...not my favorite moves but it was a great workout. Whenever you walk into the gym and see the previous class all laid out on the floor, you know it's going to be worth it.

Jay emailed me to check up on me...from Arizon apparently. It's always great to know he will take his time out of doing god-knows-what to check up on his people. You won't find that anywhere else but CFM!

He wants me to replace plantain chips with protein...and try to cut back on eggs. What else am I supposed to eat for breakfast?! I guess you don't have to eat 'breakfast food' for breakfast but it's the best meal of the day! I need some meal suggestions...should I just make an extra meat and veggie option and see how it works out?

  1. We're here for support, we love it when your clothes are falling off too!!! ha ha. I don't ate "breakfast food" anymore, you get used to it. I wake up so hungry and need the protein.

  2. Always here! Hope my post yesterday wasn't too rough.

Sorry for the long post. ;)

Breakfast well that one sometimes is hard one for me as well but I've gotten better but not great. When jay was programming me he also said to lay off the eggs. That was a bit harsh being that I am a self proclaimed egg whore. But of course he's right. He told me I can eat steel cut oates. I've learned to change it up when I put some effort into it. You can do chicken, steak slice thin so it cooks quickly. I'll actually give you a couple of examples of my recent run ins with breakfast.
The first was a couple days ago. Sam posted that she prepared three days of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well of course I messaged her and she gave me a few ideas and this is what she said:
    "Hi Yadhi,

Breakfast is always so hard, but I made up a great Paleo pancake recipe, which is what I made tonight.

    Recipe:
    1 ripe banana
    2 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla
1 to 2 tbsp coconut flour
1 to 2 tbsp flaxseed meal

I put it all in my Magic bullet. Measure approximately 1/4 cup batter and cook in heated skillet w/coconut oil. 1 recipe makes 3-4 pancakes.

I had 3 super-ripe bananas to use, but I'm sure you can sub with mashed sweet potatoes or pumpkin puree or apple sauce. The latter ingredients tend to give off more water so maybe add an extra tbsp of flour or meal.

I also make it chocolate. Instead of flaxseed meal, I use 1 tbsp cocoa powder.

I've used this to make a breakfast sandwich too (just stick a piece of lean ham and/or eggs in between 2 pancakes). It's dense enough. I can see it tasting yummy as a lunch bread. I haven't tried it yet though.

If I don't make this, I'll make some kind of omelet or frittata and undercook it (because it continues to cook when you take it off the pan and it'll cook some more when you heat it).

If I'm lazy I'll usually just eat leftovers. Steak makes a great breakfast.

When I find my favorite Paleo muffin recipe I'll be sure to share that with you, also.

    Hope this helps!"

FYI: Sam is a sensational cook!!

  3. Continued Post:

I'm totally doing the pancake idea. I love pancakes and I love something that I can literally grab, slap a piece of ham between it and drive and eat at the same time. ;-)

Finally just like we've heard so many times before breakfast dictates our day. If we start off wrong then our day is kinda sabotaged.
Wednesday morning was my day off and I finally went back to Oly training with Gary after almost 1 month off. Well I woke up last minute cuz I really wanted to sleep in but I had to go. Got up, dressed and made 2whole eggs plus one white and a shredded piece of deli ham. Threw it in a mug sprayed with pam cooked it and ate it. I got to Gary's house in a bout 1/2 hour or so. And started my session. Well I was happy to know that it was like riding a bicycle. I was doing well until....I TOTALLY hit a wall. And I mean fucking slammed into one like a crash test dummy. I had NO gas left in my tank. I suddenly couldn't lift anymore and I was just out of breath. Susan (owner of Norwalk CF) was also there training with me and she came over to make sure I was ok. Gary told me to eat a couple oreos he had in the cabinet. Well the question came up what did I eat this morning and I told them.
NO BUENO!!! I was in such a rush to leave I didn't put two an two together. See when I used to crossfit I can go on an empty stomach with maybe some water. I performed better. CF is quick 45 minutes quick and dirty and your done. Well not Oly sessions. We're talking about 3 total hours of constant skill lifts with gradual increases of weight. I didn't have enough food or even enough time for food to process to give me the energy and strength I needed.
Susan told me that she ate at least twice before she even got to the session. Chicken and sweet potato first thing in the morning and then later one hard boiled egg and a I think she said a piece of toast before she got to Gary's. All that before she arrived at 9am for the session. Wow! I know I'm totally undereating. Jay always said I was undereating.
But once I got home I was so hungry and shaky that I just...well i'm not even gonna list what I ate. It was terrible, really bad.

Anyway, you/we have to put some effort into our start. Last night I cooked a bunch of chicken breast and like 3 sweet potatoes. In containers and I figure it will last for at least 3 or 4 mornings.

    Hope this helps!!!
